5 Garage Door Problems You Should Anticipate

Kirk Gomez

Even with proper installation, garage doors can develop problems over time, because they have several movable parts that are prone to wear and tear. To prevent most problems, proper care and maintenance is necessary. In this article, we have compiled a list of some garage door problems that you should anticipate and how best to handle them.

1.    Loud noises

Loud noises from a garage door are not just irritating but are a pointer to something wrong with the door or the opener. In most cases, the track might have come out of its alignment, or maybe the garage door opener's moving parts are corroded. You will need to lubricate these parts and realign the track.

2.    Stuck door

If you open the garage door manually and it is stuck, a common issue might be an obstruction on the track. You will have to check and remove any foreign material on its track for it to move and function properly. Remember, even a small issue such as a dent in the door or a curved track might contribute to the door not opening or closing entirely. In the case of automatic doors that use electric openers, the problem might be emanating from the failure of the electrical circuit or motor to control the safety sensors or the remote control. This will require you to seek expert garage door service to rectify this.

3.    Bent door

The door can be bent due to many factors principal among them, a car rolling into it. Additionally, if you are forcing the door to close with something in the way, they will tend to bent. This is common in aluminium and steel doors. The remedy for this would be to straighten the door. However, it might not be easy as most of these doors are heavy, and therefore seeking professional service would be the best solution.

4.    Fast falls

You should pay special attention to the speed of the door while closing, whether manually-opened or automatic. This is because a fast falling door might signify failing springs or cables and if not fixed immediately, they will wear and tear completely. Someone standing below a fast falling garage door might get serious injuries too.

5.    Incomplete closing and opening

There are several causes associated with this problem. The common problem would be that the cables are failing or there is a problem in the electrical system. When this happens, you need to call a door expert.

Garage door repairs are best handled by a professional; attempts to fix a problematic door by an unskilled person could lead to accidents or could aggravate the problem.
