2 Possible Reasons Why Your Warehouse's Commercial Roller Door Refuses To Open

Kirk Gomez

When you own and operate a warehouse, one of the key points of entry into the structure is the roller doors. Whether you have to raise them manually or use an electronic device to open the doors, they need to be able to open fully and smoothly.

However, one of the roller doors may be having trouble, making it difficult to open it without considerable effort. If this is the case, there are a couple of possible reasons why your warehouse's commercial roller door refuses to open without issue.

1. The Door Itself Was Dented During A Storm Or When Someone Bumped Into It With Their Truck

One possible reason why the commercial roller door for your warehouse is unable to easily open is that the door itself may have been damaged. Especially if the door was designed for large trucks, it can easily be dented during a storm, or a truck may have bumped into it with their truck.

Because the door is no longer straight and even, it will not glide through the tracks correctly, causing it to catch as it moves. If you do find any dents in the door, a repair technician may be able to remove them as well as check the tracks for damage that may have occurred while the door was damaged.

2. Industrial Tension Springs Are Cracked Or Stretched, Making It Harder For Them To Hold The Door's Weight

Another possible reason why you are having difficulty opening the roller door is that the industrial tension springs are damaged. These heavyweight torsion springs are designed to hold the full weight of the oversized roller door.

If they are cracked or become stretched, they will no longer be able to hold the weight of the door while you try to open it. Eventually, if you do not have a professional replace the damaged springs, they could snap completely and make it impossible to move the door at all.

Whether the reason why your roller door refuses to open is damage to the door itself or failing industrial tension springs, the problem will only get worse and worse until you cannot open the door at all. Because the repairs required for each issue require specialised tools, knowledge and experience, you should not attempt to fix the door yourself. Instead, contact a company that offers commercial roller door repair services to schedule a time for someone to find the issue and fix the door for you.
